It is amazing what you run across when browsing the Internet at lunch time. We talk a lot about sustainability in industry and if you are like me you try to apply the same effort in your personal life. Low energy use appliances, low pesticide use, and making sure that your house is properly insulated and is energy efficient as you can make it.
All these things take money and just as in industry you look for an ROI, for me at least the investment should be a least a break even investment. So I am always looking for ways to be sustainable and at a low cost (my family background is a mixture of Scottish and Yorkshire blood, people who have a reputation for saving pennies).
Then I ran across this TEDex talk. How to use one paper towel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FMBSblpcrc
The video is so true, I never have used just one paper towel , since I knew, I would end up with still damp hands. Nor, come to think about it, was I ever taught how to use a paper towel to dry my hands. After 50+ years of washing and drying my hands , I found out that I was doing it wrong. Reducing waste, by changing our habits, creating a new process. Doesn't this sound like what we do in industry. Continually try to improve, if not the product, the process, to be able to do more with less. Another life lesson, continually challenge generally accepted thinking. Who knows there might be money in those improvements. You will never know unless you try.
So are you going to join me in Shaking & Folding?
